when you stop doing things for fun you might as well be dead -hemingway

Photos By Yon Soo Park

So basically I am obsessed with every aspect of this look. You can take a wild guess who shipped this outfit to me... If you guessed my lovely mama, you are correct. Of course everything fits as if it was custom made for me... Aren't Mom's the best? Anyways, this whole outfit she got from Nordstrom and all of the pieces are so incredibly versatile. I cannot wait to integrate everything into my wardrobe- especially the TOMS booties. OMG... they are soooooo comfortable! I am literally stunned at how good these shoes feel. Even as I tackle all of the hills in Berkeley, I still can hardly tell that they are on my feet. In this shoot I really tried to capture the movement and light that the transparency of the dress allows for. As the gold dots on the skirt of the dress glimmer in the sun I cannot help but fall more deeply in love with it... Ahhhhh I could talk about this outfit for days. To sum it up, when I wear this I cannot help but be in a state of bliss. And, isn't that the point of fashion after all?

we'll run to the future shining like diamonds

Photos by myself and Yon Soo Park

So basically this weekend and I my roomie and I trekked to a little part of Downtown Berkeley to have breakfast at Bette's Oceanview Diner. This place is AH-MAZING, there is not a day when the wait is under 45 minutes. Literally, the food is absolutely outstanding. Beyond that, we did a little bit of exploration... booked appointments at MAC for the opening festivies of the upcoming Marilyn Monroe make-up line... which I am soooooo incredibly excited for.

In these pictures my outfit was fairly simple and quite casual for a Sunday morning out on the town. I added the statement coral necklace and matching lipstick for some pizzaz.

The last images my roommate took of the Berkeley sunset from our dorm room... Isn't it stunning? Literally picture perfect. When going through the whole college selection process, Berkeley was never at the forefront of my thoughts. I had always envisioned myself at UCLA or USC. And although I got into those schools, I ended up choosing UC Berkeley after falling in love with it on Cal Day. Now that I am here, I cannot see myself anywhere else. Cal is literally the perfect fit for me and I am happier with my life now than I have ever been. The main lesson from this little tangent is basically to allow yourself to float instead of trying to forcefully steer your life into one direction. Exploring every option opens doors to places that you could never imagine. Aiiiight. Enough philosphy for today. Tata for now.

there is always darkness before dawn

Sometimes, in the midst of what feels like a disaster, stepping back for perspective can be enlightening. Living life with that perspective and floating instead of steering, can be a beautiful lifestyle change. Just something I have come to understand in my measely 18 years around this placeeee.

Sooooo back to fashion land mannn. This BEAUTIFUL jacket I got from... drum roll please... my mama! Yes, that's right. 411 miles away she can still find a stunning coat that fits my lanky arms. Love that pretty lady.

The rest of the outfit consists of things that I have acquired over the years. Except the clutch, that is new too. I was trying to play with the whole grunge-y make-up smoky eye look, so definitely darker eye make-up than the usual. Well, tata for now.

we will never look back, at that faded silhoutte

Photos by Yon Soo Park and myself

Coming from an English background, I have been indoctrinated to believe that British fashion, music, and food are far superior to that of what we have in here in the states. Although food and music are still up for debate, I can say with certainty that the style of Londoners has always maintained a certain edge that places them above the rest. Since 1964, Topshop in the UK has served as a style mecca for people around the globe. For those of us who have not had the chance to travel across the pond to experience the fashion heaven on Earth, now have the opportunity to get a taste of what Topshop has to offer. Today, Nordstrom opened up a section carrying select pieces from Topshop. Missing the grand opening was not an option, so I trekked over to the city this afternoon in order to be a part of the glorious affair. Although I was disappointed to find that Nordstrom had not hosted any special events to celebrate Topshop’s arrival, I was blown away by the quantity and quality of the section. Taking over at least a third of BP, flashy textures and military styles bring a fresh new twist to Nordstrom’s generally conservative young adult section. After trying on many of the pieces, I was impressed with both the manufacturing of the garments and the price point. Even though the section is priced approximately 15% above standard BP costs, the consumer walks away with a much more unique and durable addition to their wardrobe. My favorite piece was a long sleeved, body hugging dress that had a fabulous print with a blue ombre base coloring. If I were not a poor college student, that $74 dollar dress would have been mine. Until I can afford to splurge, I will continue to window shop… and attempt to hold the drool while doing so!
